Our Beginnings

Back on November 30, 2000 Rob and Barb Howard living in Lakefield hosted an informal meeting to consider forming a Probus Club for retirees living in the Peterborough area. Rob Howard served as Chair of the meeting and outlined the objectives of Probus to serve the needs of the community. It was agreed at the meeting to name the club "The Probus Club of Peterborough and District". Possible locations for the meetings were The Best Western, Naval Club, The Legion, various Church halls, and the Knights of Columbus.

After discussion, The Naval Club was chosen as the preferred site which could be leased for $20 per hour with catering of muffins and coffee at a modest cost of $2.50 per person. Rob Howard was to confirm availability of the Club for a Foundation Meeting to be held on January 17, 2001 at 10 AM. The consensus of those attending at the Howard household was to move ahead with this plan. Attendees were asked to spread the word to their retired friends hopefully to double and triple numbers at the Foundation Meeting.

As we all know… the rest is history!
