Shoutout! to Claire Burrows

Just a note of thanks for the wonderful culinary adventure through India last night.  It was an overwhelming success!!!  I was delighted by the food, challenged by the quiz and thrilled at the prizes!  But most of all, I was impressed with the involvement of the family and staff in our evening.  Your introduction of everyone and explanation of their attire set the stage and they took it.  I felt that EVERYONE from owner to serving staff were engaged and GENUINELY happy to have us as their guests.  That wasn’t just by chance.  You worked hard to help everyone understand what an important evening it was for PROBUS, which not only to ensured the meal met (actually exceeded) expectations, but that the atmosphere guaranteed that everyone would feel welcome and at home.  This is a night that will be remembered for a long time.

 

Claire, you have set a high bar for future culinary adventures but also a template for how to do it.  Thank you for your hard work and attention to detail!  What a great evening it was!!

Shoutout! to Euchre

The euchre tournament held in February with 40 attending was a huge success. What I loved was the fact that it was easier to get to know people too. More so than the other functions and the regular meetings. All those I spoke to at euchre agreed. At the meetings same people at same tables and little mingling so you don’t really get to know many people. With Euchre. It was a relaxing atmosphere and with people rotating tables it was easier to get to know people. 

I hope there are plans for another euchre tournament in the near future.

Shoutout! to Lynn Johnstone 

Since Probus Peterborough began as a club back in 2001 until now, Lynn Johnstone has served as our Archivist faithfully saving newsletters, job descriptions, flyers and more that have been touchstones of our club for all these years.  Lynn is a beacon of light shining on the true meaning of what "quiet" volunteerism is all about.  Thank you Lynn!

 

Shoutout! to Mike Hart who is all things "volunteering" in his community.  Probus golf, reading buddy to children and every job imaginable with the Buckhorn Quilter's Guild.  Ask Mike and consider it done! As everyone knows, he has an amazing sense of humour for everything in life that has all of us endlessly chuckling,  And don't forget paprika on your egg salad sandwiches.  

 

Shoutout! to our president Betty Sommers who has also been President of the St.  Alphonsus Catholic Women's League.  She been in that role fore MANY years.  She is also involved with MapleRidge Seniors Centre and has been President in the past.  Betty is seldom free to meet up most days all due to her passionate dedication to being a volunteer in our community.

 

Shoutout! to Bill Collingridge for his impeccable attention to detail on planning many bus trips and events for our club and community.  Bill is truly a perfectionist in all his volunteer work for the club, and all of us have benefitted from his contributions, have regaled with his humour, wit, stories and melodious voice in all his wonderful activities.
