March Speaker:

Lisa Browning, Education Coordinator, Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre

TURTLES – What do we really know about them?   How can we help protect them?

Lisa has a Bachelor of Science degree from Trent University and an Ecosystem Management Diploma from Fleming College.

She started as a volunteer and has since developed a passion for Ontario turtles which she will share with us.

Lisa’s dedicated background and her role as Education Coordinator at the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre will guide us through what we need to know about freshwater turtles and how we can be a steward in their protection.  The rehabilitation of injured and neglected turtles from issues most often caused by humans will enlighten our understanding.  This fascinating presentation will focus on the passionate work the OTCC does.  And, how fortunate for us, its headquarters is right here in Peterborough.

This will no doubt be a presentation which will spur you on to take family and friends to the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre to learn and be more vigilant about our own behavior with our precious environment.

Don’t miss it !!

April 1, 2026 Speaker -

Michael Newnham, Conductor of the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra

Topic:  “WHAT DOES A CONDUCTOR DO?”

What a wonderful treat for Probus Peterborough to have Michael Newnham as our speaker on April 1st.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of attending a PSO performance will attest to how drawn-in one is to the magic of the music as a direct result of the intense and inspiring conducting of Michael.  His presence is energetic, enthusiastic and meticulous.  He is known for his intense and inspiring conducting style.

Michael will take us through a quick look at how a symphony or choral conductor communicates with his musicians.  How decisions are made about what is important and what is less important.  And, most importantly -  how does a conductor demonstrate leadership?

This will be interesting, uplifting, light, informative and fascinating.  Be sure to note the date in your calendars.  It will be “music to your ears” to hear Michael Newnham as our speaker.  10am, April 1, 2026.
